FireMed Specialized Courses
Traditional/ Generic “first aid” training is not always sufficient to prepare First Responders for a variety of medical challenges they may encounter within their particular scope of work. FireMed has identified this shortfall and has created modular training options to train first responders with life saving techniques.
Gunshot Wounds and Explosive Course
Gunshot and explosive wounds have become more frequent, and First Aid Training doesn’t cover the subject in enough detail to adequately prepare the First Responder, both practically or psychologically.
At FireMed, we identified this shortfall and created courses to fill this training gap. They have proven to be very popular. Our half-day course gives the First Responder insight into ballistics and explosive injuries and focuses on refining and honing life-saving interventions for these types of injuries. Our two-day Advanced First Responders course for Gunshot wounds and Explosive injuries goes into depth with the mechanisms of injury, effects on the human body and progresses onto the life-saving techniques required for injuries of this nature. While we highly recommend that attendees of the course are already in possession of a valid first aid course we will accept candidates without prior first aid training on a case by case basis.
We have proudly presented our First Responders Course for Gunshot Wounds and Explosive Injuries to well known Anti Poaching Units, Wild Life Colleges, Community Security teams and the South African Police Services personnel.
Persons spending time in the outdoors and bushveld are exposed to a variety of tropical diseases such as malaria, tick bite fever and bilharzia. Additionally, environmental exposure such as heat stroke, frostbite and sunburn can easily be encountered. The outdoors and wilderness bring added challenges such as bites and stings. With many of these bushveld and outdoor medical risks, early identification, early diagnosis and early medical intervention are paramount to providing the required definitive care.
A large portion of deaths is caused by severe bleeding after injury, and this can be prevented with the correct knowledge and skills. You can become an immediate responder instead of being a witness.
FireMed has designed an advanced course providing detailed information on the control of severe bleeding, which includes pressure bandages, tourniquets and packed dressings.
